    Witstro Flash Strobes

    Last Updated 12th November 2023

Godox’s Witstro flashes are designed to provide professional-level lighting solutions on the move. The range includes many of the brand’s most innovative and stand-out strobe designs and incorporates state-of-the-art features to rival the top end manufacturers. The Witstro line includes everything from potent pocket-sized flashes that make a more powerful and versatile alternative to speedlites, through to high-Watt Lithium-ion-powered portable studio strobes that permit compromise-free shooting even when working on locations lacking mains power.

The Godox AD100Pro Pocket Flash is a compact yet powerful speedlight. The removable lithium-ion battery gives up to 360 full-power flashes, and many more lower-powered flashes. The AD100Pro was designed to fit into a pocket or a bag, and its round, magnetic flash head gives a natural, circular flash spread.

The AD100Pro has some impressive specs. 100Ws of power is adjustable in nine steps from 1/256 to 1/1, fast recycling times ranging from 0.01 to 1.5 seconds, and it features manual, auto, and stroboscopic capabilities.

It boasts a built-in 2.4GHz wireless system and is compatible with the magnetic AK-R1 accessories set. It’s also compatible with the Godox S2 Bracket, which makes the AD100Pro compatible with various Bowens-mount light modifiers. Control functions include 1/8000 second High-Speed Sync, first and second curtain sync, Multi-flash, and a modeling lamp. The Godox AD100Pro is a highly versatile and effective speedlight that is easy to transport and use.

    AD360II

The Godox AD360II is an updated version of the brand’s popular AD360; a highly powerful bare-bulb flash unit that comes cheaper than most top-end Nikon or Canon speedlites, yet far outperforms them in terms of output. What’s more, with the latest iteration, users gain integrated long-range wireless control and full HSS, making this a very highly specced unit indeed.

As with other Godox flash products, the AD360II will work over wireless as either master or slave. It is also compatible with the X1 transmitter (below), or can just as easily control - or be controlled by - other Godox flash units, such as the TT685.

The AD360II boasts great TTL functionality, full manual mode, and highly effective high-speed sync up to 1/8000. The UI consists of a decent-sized LCD, chunky buttons, and an easy-to-use dial on the back. For anyone who has used a regular speedlite before, menus will be a breeze to navigate.

The flash runs on slimline external Lithium-ion battery packs that are rated for a staggering 1,800 flashes. While these packs feature 2 outputs so as to permit running a pair of lights simultaneously, by using Godox’s “Y” cable adapter you can plug the AD360II into both outputs, thus halving recycle times.

    AD200

    Godox AD200 Flash Strobe

Bigger than a speedlite, but much shorter and slimmer than your average studio strobe, the Godox AD200 is a very lightweight and solidly-built flash that is ideal for high-powered location photography on-the-fly. The AD200 features a sleek design, with sturdy controls and a battery that doesn’t stick out of the unit unlike comparable products from competitor brands. This makes it much easier to stow and carry.

The AD200 allows for full manual, TTL, and HSS shooting. Beyond this, though, one of the major attractions of the unit is the fact that you can quickly switch between a fresnel and bare-bulb head. With the speedlite-style fresnel head providing concentrated output and greater protection for the bulb when on the move, but the bare-bulb offering a wider arc and more attractive quality of light when used with a softbox or other large modifier.

Speaking of modifiers, another clear advantage of these lights is simply the wide range of accessories they are compatible with. For example, there’s the AD-S2 standard reflector for general use. Alternatively, those in need of softer light can reach for the highly compact AD-S17 wide-angle diffuse r, which provides a much more travel-friendly alternative to carrying a softbox. And for more directional lighting, there’s the AD-S9 honeycomb-snoot or the BD-07 honeycomb-barn doors .

Meanwhile, the EC200 head-extension cable effectively transforms your AD200 into a small flash head with a separate battery pack; rather like a miniature studio light. And anyone who also needs to shoot with continuous lighting from time to time will likely be interested in the AD-L head, as this will transform your AD200 into a portable LED video light. Finally, want to double your output power by combining two AD200 units and just one head? The AD-B2 dual-power flash bracket is for you.

Compact yet highly versatile, these little units are a total blessing for any frequent air travellers who have become fatigued by the ever more stringent controls on checked baggage. They are small and discrete enough that they are unlikely to cause you any arguments with airport security, yet still pack a huge amount of power once you get to your destination.

Indeed, the AD200 is much more powerful than a speedlite and only marginally less so than something like the Godox AD600 (below). It recycles to full power in just over 2 seconds, and the battery is rated for 500 shots from a full charge. That’s a lot of punch from so small a unit. Purchase a couple of these and an AD600Pro , and you’ve got a highly potent studio lighting setup that you can take virtually anywhere.

    AD200Pro

    Godox witstro AD200Pro Flash Strobe

The AD200Pro keeps the winning design of its predecessor (the AD200, above), but adds better colour stability via a dedicated “Stable Colour Temperature Mode.” Other changes include an improved, and now recessed, rear display; an increased power range; and output that is changeable in 1/10 increments. Godox also claims slightly faster recycle times.

All the accessories that go with the AD200 will also work on the Pro version, including the round head. However, if you want to make use of this latter item you’ll need to purchase it separately, as by default only the fresnel head is included in the box with the AD200Pro. As with the AD200, the AD200Pro will also work with the EC200 extension head.

    Godox AD200Pro Accessories

To elevate your photography game further, we're here to introduce you to a range of accessories designed to enhance the performance and versatility of your Godox AD200Pro.

    R200

When you want professional lighting without the hassle of off-camera lights and softboxes, or if you need to follow the action for run-and-gun journalistic photography, weddings, or fashion shots on location, a ring light is the answer to your prayers. It delivers soft illumination, smooth light fall and stunning circular catchlights in your subject’s eyes. Being attached to the lens means you have versatility in shooting angles. You also have a faster shooting session compared to using lights on stands since you don’t have to relocate the off-camera flashes whenever you want to change your subject’s position. It’s perfect for busy environments where light stands could be intrusive and awkward. The Godox R200 has a 10W modelling light with low, medium, and high power settings.

To use the R200, you must have a Godox AD200 or AD200Pro pocket flash, which can be carried in the cross-body mini bag supplied with the R200 ring head. The R200 can be purchased individually or with the Godox AD200Pro flash. You can also use the R200 on a light stand instead of around the lens. Accessories to enhance your ring flash experience include reflectors to soften shadows, colour gels for creative expression and honeycomb grids that reduce light spill. The honeycomb grids are available in 20°, 30° and 40° options.

    AD-S200

When stylish illumination is required, the ADS200’s distinctive cylindrical design sets it apart from other flashes. Measuring 65 centimetres in length, its transparent flash tube helps achieve a unique lighting style in studio and on-location photography. It’s designed to complement the AD200/AD200Pro pocket flashes. It boasts a wide 360° beam spread, ensuring even and consistent lighting across various atmospheres and settings. This compact yet powerful light source can be used as a fill light, easily fitting into small spaces. Its ability to deliver soft and natural light makes it perfect for portraits, jewellery, artwork, and product photography. For precise lighting control, metal barn doors are included, allowing the beam angle to be adjusted from 180° to narrower settings. With 200W flash power and a 5600K colour temperature, it brings professional-level lighting to any photographic situation.

    AD300Pro

A new addition to the Godox stable, the AD300Pro is a beautifully-designed little barrel of a light that packs a lot of power into its sleek and lightweight body. In appearance, the AD300Pro is perhaps the closest any Godox product gets to Profoto’s offerings; with a fully modern silhouette that makes most traditional studio lights look like the relic from the last century that they are. But beyond superficial resemblance, the AD300Pro also offers a level of performance that is comparable to models such as Profoto’s B10 units - but for less than a third of the cost.

The AD300Pro runs on a Lithium battery pack that slots in easily from the back; making it simple to switch-out while shooting. Rated to provide 320 full-power flashes on the move, the battery will recharge to full in less than two and half hours.

    Godox AD300Pro Flash Strobe

The AD300Pro is controlled by an easy-to-use combination of buttons surrounding a good-sized LCD on the rear of the unit. Meanwhile, built-in 2.4 GHz radio triggering makes the light TTL-compatible with a wide array of camera models from Canon, Nikon, Fuji, and Olympus, through to Pentax, Panasonic, and Sony.

The AD300Pro comes with a slim integrated reflector, for a highly attractive quality of light right off the bat. Alternatively, those looking to sculpt their light further will find a wide range of compatible modifiers to choose from. These include the AD-65/85 softboxes, the SN04 snoot, the AD-R12 long-focus reflector, and the BD-08 barndoor kit. And with its 12W output, the AD300Pro’s bi-colour (3000K -6000K) LED modelling light could also double as a video light in a pinch.

    AD400Pro

You could be forgiven for imagining that the AD400Pro would essentially just be the AD200Pro with 200Ws of extra juice. Or an AD300Pro with 100W more. In actual fact, though, while still very mobile and easy to use, the AD400Pro is an altogether different unit. Indeed it’s more like a regular studio strobe in appearance and has little in common with the minimalist brick design of the two AD200 models or the self-contained tube of the AD300.

Looks aren’t everything, though, and the AD400Pro is an impressive performer; offering TTL, manual, and multimode operation, and featuring a very bright LED 30W modeling lamp. It’s rated for 390 full-power flashes and boasts a recycling time of just one second; highly impressive for a portable light of this kind. The unit can be set to power-off automatically when left inactive for long periods of time, helping to save the battery.

    godox ad400pro flash strobe

The AD400Pro comes with the Godox mount as standard, making it compatible with the AD-S65/85 softboxes right out of the box. Additionally, there are interchangeable adapter rings available for Bowen’s, Profoto, and Elinchrom light modifiers - something that’s lacking from even the higher powered AD600Pro (below). The whole kit arrives neatly packed in its own carrying case, allowing snug and secure storage of the unit once a job’s done.

Finally, one clear advantage of the AD400Pro over most competing portable lighting units is the fact that it can also run on mains power. Keep the battery in the pack while shooting indoors using the AC400 power adapter and it will recharge for when you’re ready to move to the next outdoor location. There’s also the H400P head-to-pack extension cable for when using the AD400Pro on particularly tall lighting stands; allowing you to keep the power pack low down as ballast, ensuring that the head remains safely balanced high up on the stand.

    AD600BM

    godox ad600bm flash strobe

The AD600BM is a manual-only flash unit that packs an impressive blast of power (guide 87) from its rechargeable Lithium battery pack. However, lacking TTL capabilities, it’s a light that will be less suited to run-and-gun shooting situations such as weddings and other events, instead of finding its place in the studio or on location for portraiture, fashion, product shots, etc. And with full HSS capabilities on offer, it’s also well equipped for working outside in bright sunshine.

The unit boasts a bright 10 W modeling light, and both output and colour consistency is excellent. While recycling times are not the fastest compared to some other Godox flash models, they are nonetheless pretty impressive. As with many other Godox flash units, the AD600BM can be used with an extension head (in this case the AD-H600), and powered by an AC adapter (the AD-AC) for when shooting close to mains power.

If the lack of TTL makes the AD600BM a no-go as far as you’re concerned, you may want to check out the AD600B (below).

This is the TTL version of the AD600BM , with all other specifications remaining the same. This means you get a powerful Lithium battery pack, fast recycling times, triggering over 2.4 GHz wireless, consistent colour and output, and a 10 W modeling light with 3 output settings. As with other top-of-the-range Godox lights, the unit will automatically switch off after a period of prolonged inactivity. As with the AD600BM, the AD600B can also be used with the AD-H600 extension head and the AD-AC mains adapter.

    AD600Pro

The Godox AD600Pro is a very serious portable strobe that will satisfy the needs of almost any photographer - from the casual enthusiast through to the seasoned professional. In many ways very similar to Profoto’s B1 and B10 models, the AD600pro is well suited to top-end commercial photography, events, fashion, portraiture, product, and still-life photography; essentially any scenario in which a high output, fast recycling times, and total ease of use are of the essence.

However, it’s worth remembering that although this is pretty much the top of the range for Godox in terms of specifications, it’s more or less the bottom of the range for brands like Profoto and Broncolor. Which is not to say that the Godox product is inferior. Quite the opposite; what you’re getting here is a premium quality studio light that is comparable to products offered by the very best manufacturers - even outperforming them on several fronts - but for a fraction of the price. In fact, little more than a third of the price; depending on precisely which Broncolor or Profoto product we’re talking about.

As we’ve just seen though, the AD600’s B and BM models (above) are already very powerfully specced. So what makes this one worthy of the “Pro” tag and accompanying price-hike? Well, for a start, although the AD600Pro’s output remains the same (guide number 87), recycling times are significantly faster on this unit than the previous two models. Indeed, they are actually faster than with comparable Profoto products. Wireless sync range, too, has been extended, and there’s a much more powerful modeling light on offer here as well.

As with the AD600B, there’s also TTL operation. And, in common with a few other top of the range Godox flash units, there’s a consistent colour temperature mode for when precision in this department is essential.

    Godox ad600pro flash strobe

Admittedly the unit is a touch heavier than the B and BM models, but not enough to cause concern. Less positively, however, at 360 full-power flashes per charge, the Pro will actually keep you shooting for less time than the cheaper B and BM versions. So if you are a heavy shooter, you will likely want to invest in a second battery (they take just a couple of hours to charge). Handily, the AD600Pro can also be powered by the AC26 mains adapter. And for those times when you need to position the light high up on a tall stand, there’s the H600P extension head .

Whereas Profoto units typically allow for adjustments of 1/10, power on the AD600Pro can be increased only in increments of 1/3 stop. But just how precise any brand really is on this front is open to some considerable doubt, so in practice the difference may not matter a great deal anyway.

The Godox AD600Pro is a fantastic bit of kit that is truly unbeatable on features at this price point. You’ll want to be absolutely certain that you really need the extra specs it offers though, as it comes in at almost twice the cost of the manual-only AD600BM.

    AD1200Pro

Hinted at in late 2019, and officially announced just at the start of this year, the latest addition to the professional Godox flash range, the AD1200Pro, is a super high-powered portable studio light that places the brand firmly in the major league of lighting manufacturers. These lights promise to be a game-changer for photographers seeking a mobile solution for high-output flash at a price well below that of any similar products from Broncolor, Profoto, and Elinchrom etc.

But it’s not just the combination of high flash potency and a bargain price that is generating so much excitement around the AD1200Pro . Coming in a sturdy outer shell, with rubberised protection on all corners, and boasting chunky and solid-looking controls, by any standards these are exceptionally durable and well-built lights. Clearly more than capable of withstanding the rigours of daily use on location.

And while 10 years ago we might have had some reservations about the slightly fragile-looking connections between pack and head that Godox used on some of their portable lighting kits, the AD1200Pro sees the brand opting for a very reassuring looking Elinchrom-style socket for the power cable; no more fussy pin-formations or flimsy connections here.

    godox ad1200pro flash strobe

Even putting build quality aside, though, these simply look to be extremely impressive kits. Not to mention powerful; partly in terms of their 1200 Watt output, but also in the impressive array of features they pack under the hood. For a start, the AD1200Pro is compatible with the TTL systems of several camera manufacturers, including Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, and Sony. Then of course there is Godox’s fantastic 2.4 GHz wireless trigger system, offering five controllable slave groups and 32 channels, and rated to work over distances of up to 100 meters/328 feet.

Featuring bright 40 Watt LED modelling lights, High-Speed Sync with shutter speeds of up to 1/8000, and Godox’s Stable Colour Temperature mode, these lights are set to become the default portable studio system for professionals and serious enthusiasts alike. There’s also a Stroboscopic Mode that permits firing off 100 consecutive high-speed flashes at 1/16 power; great for capturing fast action sequences.

The units run on portable Lithium-Ion batteries, or can be powered directly from the mains while charging. A full battery will provide you with a highly impressive 500 full-power flashes, with recycling times of two seconds at maximum output. Finally, the AD1200Pro is compatible with an enormous range of light modifiers via the popular Bowen’s type mount.
