Godox Speedlite Flashes
Last Updated 12th November 2023
Until recently the market for affordable third-party speedlites had largely been dominated by other Chinese brands such as Yongnuo. That’s all changed; now Godox has made this terrain well and truly their own. The brand has achieved this rapid turnaround by offering a strong range of powerful little flash guns packed with advanced features of the kind normally only found on much more expensive products.
Godox offers a wide range of speedlites for use both on and off camera. These are compatible with camera models from all the major manufacturers, such as Canon, Nikon, Sony etc. To help you choose the model that’s right for you, here’s a rundown of all the Godox speedlites currently available; a summary of their main features and advantages; and comparison tables to help you to decide between them. You can also check out our video below where we compare the Godox Speedlite Range, more specifically the TT350, V350, TT600, TT685, and V860II.
Godox A1 Hybrid Flash/LED Smartphone Flash & Trigger (Discontinued)
The Godox A1 is a hybrid flash-LED-trigger device that fills a gap in the market for off-camera flash photography using smartphones. Fitting easily into the palm of the hand, and stylishly designed, the A1 makes an excellent companion to the latest generation of high-resolution smartphone cameras. Now you can achieve professional photographic results on your phone with very little extra equipment or investment.
In practice, this could simply mean taking much more stylish and better-exposed selfies. Yet the A1 is every bit as suitable for shooting product photography too; making it a great option for those running a home e-commerce business.
This flash has now been discontinued by Godox.
The unit is controlled via Godox’s dedicated smartphone app. This allows you to remotely alter the A1’s setting - for example, change the power output, or turn on the modelling lamp - while also adjusting the settings of your phone’s camera for better manual results. There are also physical controls on the A1 itself - a handy top-dial and an easy-to-read LED display - making it simple to perfect your lighting setup on the fly.
Being so small, the A1 can easily be hand-held while simultaneously shooting with your phone, or placed discretely just out of shot on a tripod, table, or another available surface. The unit could even be hidden in the shot itself for creative effect.
Additionally, the A1 offers a high degree of integration with other products in the Godox lighting system, allowing it to become part of more sophisticated setups via wireless triggering - either as a master or a slave. So for those who already own other Godox lights, the A1 could be used in tandem with one or more other flash units; acting as a small front fill-light, for example.

A1 Mini (Discontinued)
The Godox A1 Mini, or the “Ami” as it’s affectionately called, is a stripped-down and smaller version of Godox’s A1 smartphone strobe (above) that does away with some of the pro-level features of the original. Although the idea and design of the unit remain the same, the Mini lacks the wider compatibility offered by its predecessor. And without 2.4 GHz wireless functionality, all communication between the Mini and your phone is done over Bluetooth. In practice, this means that the A1 functions merely as a simple smartphone strobe light, and cannot be integrated into Godox’s broader flash trigger system in the same way that the A1 can.
However, the fact that Godox has released a more minimal version of this flash actually makes a lot of sense. Most users will be interested in a product of this kind simply for shooting better selfies or quick product photos that they can upload to e-commerce sites such as Depop and eBay. And for that, they’ll have no need for either the A1’s more sophisticated specifications nor its higher price tag.
This flash has now been discontinued by Godox.

MF12 Macro Flash
The Godox MF12 Macro Flash Light is an ingenious and powerful flash ideal for photographers wanting to get up close and personal with minuscule objects. Macro photography has proven to be a highly popular genre - especially for those looking for photography projects without leaving the comfort of home. Regardless of photographing flowers, insects, arachnids or jewellery, the Godox MF12 Macro Flash Light is an ideal solution to achieve the best exposure and punchy images. The Godox MF12 Macro Flash Light is lightweight and compact, allowing it to be added to the included flash stand, shoe mount or clip directly to a macro lens via an optional lens mount.
Despite its tiny form, the Godox MF12 Macro Flash Light is incredibly powerful, with the built-in lithium battery delivering up to 500 full-power flashes with a 0.01 to 1.7 second recycling time. We love that it features a rechargeable battery - unlike most flash units that require countless AA and AAA batteries. Given that it’s an off-camera flash unit, it pairs seamlessly with any of the 2.4GHz Wireless Control Godox XPro, X1, or X2 camera mounted flash triggers for remote operation. As a result, the Godox MF12 Macro Flash Light is compatible with camera brands including Nikon, Sony, Canon, Fujifilm, Olympus and Panasonic.
The Godox MF12 Macro Flash Light is more than just a flash head. Included with the unit are the Godox MF-11C Colour Effects and MF-11T Colour Temperature Adjustment gel Sets. As a result, you’ll have greater control of the colour cast of your flash as well as the colour temperature usually only found in LED panels. If you wish to take your macro work to the next level, then it’s well worth considering one of Hypop’s favourite products - the Godox MF12 Two Light Macro Flash Kit . As the name suggests, the Godox MF12 Two Light Macro Flash Kit includes two of everything included with the Godox MF12 Macro Flash Light. Plus, it contains a single carry case along with a Mounting Ring MF-AR and Adapter Rings Kit AR-R Kit to mount your dual flash heads to your macro lens.
At Hypop, we love that Godox has made all of the kit accessories available as standalone products. Regardless of having one, two or four of the Godox MF12 Macro Flash Light units, you can optimise the performance of each with the range of essential accessories. Macro lenses come in a range of sizes and filter threads. That’s why we recommend the Godox AR-R Adapter Rings Kit For MF12 Macro Flash and the Godox MF-AR Mounting Ring For MF12 Macro Flash . The Adapter Rings allow you to add the Mounting Ring to the most common lens sizes available. Then, you can mount up to four Godox MF12 Macro Flash Lights to the Godox MF-AR Mounting Ring For MF12 Macro Flash and angle them in towards your subject. For ultimate exposure and colour control, we recommend the Godox MF-11T Colour Temperature Gel Set For MF12 and the Godox MF-11C Colour Effects Gel Set For MF12 . The final accessory is the Godox MF-CS Cold Shoe Adaptor For The MF12 . It allows you to quickly add and remove the Godox MF12 Macro Flash Light from your camera without disrupting the composition.

MF-R76C/ MF-R76S/ MF-R76N
This new range of MF-R76 flashes uses TTL metering, whereas the older versions were entirely manual. TTL stands for ‘Through-The-Lens,’ meaning that the flash automatically adjusts its power output to the subject. These ring flashes have a simple user interface and illuminate the subject with a soft spread of light, making them ideal for macro photography. The twin-tube design on these flash systems allows users to set each side to different power ratios, enabling higher contrast lighting when desired. Canon users will be delighted with the release of the MF-R76C macro ring flash, which is a dedicated flash for Canon cameras. The MF-R76N is for Nikon users. The Godox MF-R76S has the same macro ring flash but is designed for Sony cameras. These ring flashes include 49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 67, 72, and 77mm adapter rings to ensure compatibility with most lenses.

ML150II
Macro photography opens a whole new world to explore. Camera users love having new photographic options in front of the lens, especially when they are available in their backyard. Flowers, bugs, and water droplets make fascinating subjects that provide endless creative opportunities.
The main challenge with macro photography is to avoid blocking the light as you move the camera closer to your subject. A standard on-camera flash attached to the hot shoe will blast the details from a macro subject because the light source is too close to the object being photographed. The answer to this dilemma is to invest in a ring light. When the budget-priced and lightweight Godox ML150II ring light is attached to your lens, you will have eleven degrees of brightness for precise illumination adjustment. The compact controller for this device sits on the hot shoe and is compatible with almost all cameras. A wide variety of adapter rings are included with this ring light. They allow you to use lenses with diameters of 49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 67, 72, and 77mm.
Four AA alkaline batteries power the Godox ML150II macro ring flash. It’s an affordable way to begin your exploration of macro photography. This flash has a built-in diffuser that provides soft, shadow-less light for delicate subjects. You can even use it for flattering portraits. The circular design adds appealing catchlights in the eyes of portrait subjects.
Lux Junior Retro Flash
If you want to have fun with your photography, then the Godox Lux Junior Retro Camera Flash add to your camera's look and delivers exceptional lighting. Made to work with Fujifilm, Nikon, Canon, Sony and OM System (Olympus), this vintage-looking 3 x 2.8 x 2" flash offers both manual and automatic settings.
Across the classic silver accent design, you'll find various photographic '80s retro-ness. Features such as the Vintage Manual Dial let the photographer explore ISO, Aperture and Power Output. While manual controls may seem difficult to grasp, Godox has the millennials covered with an easy-to-use automatic mode that will help you calculate correct exposure.
Operating on either NI-MH rechargeable or AAA alkaline batteries, you'll find this flash an asset for your Nikon Z fc, Fujifilm X100 series, Olympus OM-D series or Canon G1 X. Its Guide Number at 1/1 is GN12, meaning at ISO 100, there's enough coverage at 12 metres. You can dial down the power across seven levels (1/1 - 1/64), so at a fixed focal length of 28mm, you'll get the perfect amount of light at every f-stop.

TT350
The TT350 is a Godox flash for Sony, Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, and Fuji cameras that can be used in TTL, manual, optical slave, and multi-flash modes. The TT350 is very compact in size; reflected by the fact that it takes just 2 AA batteries rather than the standard 4 of a full-size speedlite.
Naturally, fewer batteries and a smaller head translate into reduced output when compared with a full-size unit. Nonetheless, the aggressive “spank” of a high-powered strobe on full power will be overkill for anyone who largely just uses flash for filling in shadows or balancing with ambient light. Similarly, a full-size speedlite will make many smaller Mirrorless cameras a little too top-heavy for comfort.
Consequently, with its highly accessible price, the Godox TT350 will make a very appealing option for many more casual users or those with smaller cameras. Alternatively, for serious strobists looking to put together a more advanced off-camera flash setup, this would also make an excellent second or third flash unit when combined with one or two bigger guns.
Having said this, despite its miniature size, the TT350 actually holds its own pretty well in the power department; offering a very noticeable step up in output when compared with the built-in flash of your average DLSR or Mirrorless camera. On paper, the unit offers a guide number of 36, and in practice, illumination is surprisingly powerful for such a small flashgun. Although recycling times are rated by the manufacturer at about 2.2 seconds, in practice they seem to be more like 2.5 seconds at full power; still pretty impressive for such a small gadget.
The TT350 can also be used as both a master and slave radio controller, allowing you to fire other Godox flash guns at a distance. And when in wireless mode, the unit offers 3 groups, 16 channels, and a 30 metre sync range.
The TT350’s UI is fairly minimal, featuring a simple layout under the LCD consisting of easy to press buttons and a selection dial. To anyone who has ever used a speedlite before, all controls will be fairly intuitive and self-explanatory. Finally, the build of this unit is extremely durable, and articulation of the head is very smooth with just the right degree of resistance.
To summarise, the TT350 does pretty much anything you could ever want from a speedlite, only in a somewhat smaller and less powerful format.

V350
Like the look of the Godox TT350 (above)? But aren’t willing to forego power in pursuit of a more compact design? Then the V350 could be just for you. This unit is essentially the same as the TT350, but with a built-in recyclable Lithium-ion battery providing more flashes and faster recycling times. Indeed, the boost from the Li-ion effectively halves the amount of time you’ll need to wait before you can fire again.
True, the V350 is very marginally longer in the head and bulkier in the body than the TT350; but if you crave more power, this minor compromise in size and weight is well worth the trade-off. Other than this though, there’s essentially no difference between the two models, so only go for the more costly V350 if you think you’ll need the extra power and speed.

TT600
The TT600 is a manual-only speedlite for i.e. it doesn’t offer TTL operation. This makes it more useful as part of an off-camera multi-strobe setup than as a primary on-camera flash unit. However, one thing that you do get here - and this is something of a game-changer considering the price of this light - is high-speed sync (HSS). And via wireless to boot!
Additionally, as with most other Godox flash products, the TT600 can be used as either a wireless master or a slave. This means that it’s ideal for use as an off-camera flash at a distance, controlled via one of the Godox wireless transmitters (see below), or just as equally it can be used to remotely trigger any other Godox flash unit(s) you may own.
The TT600 features an easy-to-use interface; chunky, robust buttons; and a nice smooth selection dial. The rotating flash-head provides satisfying action, with good resistance and clear stops when adjusting the angle. Finally, as with all these little Godox flash units, the construction quality of the TT600 is very sturdy. And while the battery door is inevitably the weakest part of any speedlite, here it fits very snugly and feels solidly built. The unit takes 4 AA batteries. Got a Sony camera and want the TT600? This is the wrong model; you'll need the TT600s (below).

TT685
Providing a higher output than the other units we’ve covered here so far, the TT685 is quite a serious Godox flash gun that’s available for Panasonic, Nikon, Canon, Sony, Fuji, and Olympus cameras. Whereas the TT350 and 600 models (above) are great little speedlites for using with a smaller Mirrorless camera, or as secondary flash units in a multi-strobe setup, the TT685 offers TTL operation and a range of other specifications more comparable with high-end flash units from household-name manufacturers. This makes it a great choice as a primary flash gun - even on larger cameras such as DSLRs.
In addition to the increased power output, the TT685 is also capable of covering a much wider zoom range, with settings available from 20mm through to 200mm. As ever, build is very solid and reassuring, and there’s a custom lock button to stop you from accidentally changing flash parameters mid-shoot.
Once again the TT685 can be used as either a master or slave over 2.4 GHz wireless, with the LCD changing colour depending upon which mode you select; a green light means master, while orange indicates that the flash is functioning as a slave. This makes it quick and easy to tell which unit you’re dealing with when working with multiple strobes placed at a distance.
All in all, if you’re looking for a single workhorse TTL speedlite for use with your Mirrorless or DSLR camera, you could do a lot worse than the Godox TT685.

TT685II
The Godox TT685II is a new addition to the remake of the popular Godox TT685. Now Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, Olympus and Panasonic users can optimise a larger bounce angle making it ideal for reducing shadows when bouncing light either as an on-camera flash or or off-camera flash. The new flash comes equipped with TCM Instant conversion which instantly converts from TTL to manual mode ensuring you can lock your exposure value easily.
The ergonomics of the Godox TT685II make it easy to slide and lock the unit onto a camera using a Quick-release Lock, something the prior model lacked. You’ll find the build similar in size, but 5 grams lighter than the Godox TT685. The specification lineup on the newer model will be familiar to users. You’ll find the normal TTL, Manual and Multi flash modes, which unlock a High Speed Sync up to 1/8000 second. For creative control photographers can adopt FEC, FEB, rear-curtain sync to capture and portray motion differently.
An external power pack is available for the Godox TT685II making those longer shoots tangible without the need to carry additional batteries. Plus, when syncing the flash to your camera it’s just as easy. Using a 2.4G wireless X System the flash will sync with a variety of cameras, depending on the flash used. The full line up of Godox TT685II flash units are as follows:

V850II
The Godox V850II is a full-sized speedlite with a built-in Lithium-ion battery. With its high-power output and fast recycling times, the V850II is well suited for use with a DSLR or larger Mirrorless camera. However, as the unit doesn’t offer TTL operation, for most photographers it’s likely to be most attractive as a powerful off-camera flash. Similarly, HSS is only available when the unit is used via wireless, making the V850II a more obvious choice for use as part of a multi-flash or studio setup. If you consider the lack of TTL and full-HSS capabilities to be a deal-breaker, you may want to consider the otherwise identical V860II (below) as an alternative.

V850III
Designed to replace the prior Godox V850II model, the Godox V850III Flash aims to be more efficient with comfortable operation. Like the V860III, the new flash inherits a broader tilt-angle bounce for flexible operation, clocking with a range from -7° through to 120°. For photographers, this bounce flexibility is a welcome asset in smaller spaces. The Li-ion battery is also interchangeable between the V1 and the higher-end V860III.
The onboard rear control panel is greatly improved in functionality and interactive use. The rear LCD panel is bright and clear. For beginner and enthusiast photographers, the display size welcomes glances for settings, while beginners will find the icons less technical than the previous model.
The flash housing is similar to its predecessor in size, making one or more a welcome asset in your camera bag. With the ability for the unit to work as a transmitter and receiver, photographers can have up to five controllable slave groups making creating light a welcome feature. Combine this with the built-in Godox 2.4G Wireless X System, and anyone can light a scene remotely untethered from the camera. We recommend the Godox V850III Flash for any beginner or enthusiast photographer who desires creative flash control features.

V860III
When you’re a photographer on the go, it’s important to have a flash that keeps up. The upgraded Godox V860 III Flash competes with the best to perform 480 times at full power with 1.5 seconds of recycling time while simultaneously connecting with your camera wireless via 2.4G.
With added features, Canon, Pentax, Fujifilm, Nikon, Sony and Olympus users should note this flash is a game-changer for portable lighting. Take, for example, the ability to pre-visualise how light falls. With a built-in modelling light, photographers can visually see their settings in action before taking the shot. In addition, the ability to control the flash from automatic to manual operation is seamless. Rather than menu-dividing, the two main modes are conveniently found in a dedicated switch.
If you are on the hunt for a flash with optimal lighting control, you seriously need to look at the flexibility of the Godox V860 III Flash head. With an auto or zoomable manual range from 20mm to 200mm, photographers can adjust the size of the light depending on their subject. For example, if you find yourself in a smaller space, a wider zoom range will be optimal. Combine this with the flexible shoot angle ranging from 0° to 330°, and you’re well on your way to the ultimate flashgun.

V1
The Godox V1 is the brand’s flagship speedlite, for use both on and off camera; effectively bridging the gap between regular speedlites and more advanced studio strobes. The first thing you’ll notice about the V1 is that it features a rounded head, rather than the standard rectangular one of most speedlites. In theory, this unusual shape leads to a much softer and more pleasing quality of light than the rectangular fresnel head of a standard portable flashgun.
While clearly, a small head without modifiers will never achieve the softness of a big studio unit with a softbox, the effect produced by the V1 is very attractive indeed. In fact, the V1 even outdoes speedlites from very popular and respected brands such as Metz, both in terms of the quality of light and accuracy of TTL performance.
In any case, if the softness of light is what you seek, the V1 is compatible with Godox’s impressive range of magnetic accessories (below), allowing for the quick and easy changing of light modifiers. The unit features an impressively powerful modelling light and runs on a built-in rechargeable Lithium-ion battery that’s good for about 480 full-power flashes. If you think that you’ll need even more juice than this, spare batteries are available at a very reasonable price, and will charge quickly via USB.
The build of the V1 is very rugged, and the head can be positioned at a broader range of vertical angles than usual, allowing you to bounce light from above and behind if necessary. Meanwhile, as with most of the Godox flash units we’ve looked at here, the head swivels 330 degrees horizontally.
