Aputure Amaran AL-198A LED Light
Hypop Official Review
Here at Hypop, we pride ourselves on our selection of quality brands. The Aputure Amaran range is an affordable yet professional step into the world of photographic lighting. Today we’re reviewing the Aputure Amaran AL-198A LED light.
Straight out of the box you will notice its size - it’s compact, light and not bulky. A good first impression! The LED comes with two plastic filters (white andorange) which can be easily applied and removed with its snap on function. The white helps you achieve a softer look while shooting, whereas the orange is more suited for colour correction under tungsten lighting. Also included is a male to male cold shoe tilt bracket that enables you to mount the panel directly onto your camera. The unit itself has a beam angle wheel and also a double power supply system (AA/Lithium Battery).
Another great feature of this little gem is that you can connect multiple AL-198A LED panels together, perfect if you’re after extra brightness. Connect up to 9 panels with ease. As the AL-198A design is frameless, once joined, you will achieve a fuller light with no light leakage.
These little gems pack a punch when it comes to brightness, so be careful when you first turn the panel on full power – don’t look directly into the light! The panel consists of 198 LED’s that emit 1,325 LUX from 1 metre and 166 LUX at 3 meters. These give off great colours, perfect for true to life shooting. With testing, we found that these panels have a flicker free output, perfect for videography.
Another great feature we’d like to point out is the handy beam angle adjustment wheel. You can switch from 20 degrees to 60 degrees in a matter of seconds.
Overall the Aputure 198A is very simple to operate and extremely user friendly. Like the majority of the Aputure Amaran range, we also found that the panels did not overheat due to their eco-friendly nature. So if you’re looking for an affordable and reliable portable LED lighting solution, we highly recommend the Aputure Amaran range.
